Private Dennis was a member of the 74th Engineer Combat Battalion, U.S. Army. On 6 March 1952, he was run over while trying to stop a driverless bulldozer near Kwanam-Dong, North Korea.

Dennis was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
