Private Brown was a member of the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy while fighting the enemy in North Korea on 5 December 1952 and evacuated to the Unites States. He died at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, on 22 February 1953.

For his leadership and valor, Private Brown was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
