Major Brommelsiek was a crew member of a B-47 Stratojet stationed at Lockbourne Air Force Base near Columbus, Ohio. On 24 July 1953, the aircraft was doing "touch and go" landings, when it swerved off the runway, crashed and burned.

Brommelsiek was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
