First Lieutenant Nachman was a member of the 99th Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division. He was seriously wounded while fighting the enemy in South Korea on 26 January 1951 and died of those wounds on 29 January 1951.

Nachman was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
