Private Jones was a member of Company C, 44th Engineer Combat Battalion, U.S. Army. On 16 April 1952, he jumped from the bed of a truck and fell underneath it in South Korea.

Jones was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
