Private First Class Simon was a member of the 541st Transportation Truck Company, U.S. Army. On 19 December 1952, he was riding in a truck a mile south of Kan-chon, Korea, when it crashed into a ravine killing him.

Simon was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
