Corporal Walters was a medic with the Medical Company, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was seriously wounded in North Korea while tending his wounded comrades on 2 November 1950 and returned to duty on 8 November 1950. He was seriously wounded again in South Korea on 14 October 1950 and returned on 17 October 1950. He was seriously wounded a third time in North Korea on 28 April 1951 and died of those wounds the following day.
Walters was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf 2 Clusters, the Combat Medical Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
