Corporal Sons was a member of Battery A, 90th Field Artillery Battalion, 25th Infantry Division. On 26 April 951, he was resting beside an ammunition truck that was being unloaded, when a box of 155mm fuses accidentally fell on his stomach killing him.

Sons was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
