Timothy J. "Bubba" Poole
Lance Corporal, U. S. Marine Corps
Operation Enduring Freedom - Afghanistan

Timothy J. Poole was born on 17 December 1987 in Jacksonville, Duval County, FL. At the age of four, Timothy met a man who would change his life forever. His father had taken him to a "Toys for Tots" event and while there, Timothy walked up to a Marine standing at attention. This solemn man broke attention, picked up the small boy and whispered in his ear. No one knows what was spoken but that night, as his father was putting him to bed, little Bubba told his father that he was going to grow up to be a Marine. In 2005, the family moved to Bowling Green, KY, where Timothy attended Warren East High School and graduated in 2007. Timothy was a quiet, polite young man who skateboarded.

Military Service

True to his word, he joined the Marines shortly after graduating from high school. He saw lots of action in 2 ½ years; two deployments to Iraq and the last to Afghanistan in November 2009.

On 24 January 2010, Lance Corporal Poole was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, HI, currently deployed in Helmand, Afghanistan.

That day, Poole was conducting counter-insurgency operations with the Afghan National Security Forces and was killed when he stepped on an IED - improvised explosive device.

The last time he visited his family he told his dad to remember that if he died, he died doing what he wanted to do; serving his country - a country he loved.
