Hospital Corpsman Third Class McIntyre was assigned to the 1st Marine Division. He was Wounded in Action while engaged with the enemy and taken to the 11th Evacuation Hospital where he died on 8 January 1953.

McIntyre was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
