Sergeant First Class Norton was a member of Company B, 14th Engineer Combat Battalion, U.S. Army. He developed spinal poliomyelitis and was taken to the 121st Evacuation Hospital where he died on 29 June 1953.

Norton was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
