Private First Class Munson was a member of the 55th Replacement Battalion (Pipeline), U.S. Army. He died of other causes on 8 February 1951 at the 3rd Station Hospital, North Korea.

Munson was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
