Corporal Miles was a member of the 3rd Transportation Amphibious Truck Company, U.S. Army. On 8 November 1950, he was driving a truck on Wolmi-do Island at Inchon, South Korea, when his amphibious truck plunged over a sea wall drowning him.

Miles was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
