USMA Class of 1949, First Lieutenant McDaniel was a member of the 3526th Pilot Training Squadron, 3525th Pilot Training Wing at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona. On 16 August 1951, he was involved in an aircraft training accident that killed him.

McDaniel was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
