Captain Jones was the pilot of a B-26B Invader bomber with the 728th Bomber Squadron, 452nd Bomber Wing. On 25 September 1951, his aircraft crashed into the sea three miles southeast of Pusan East Airfield (K-9).

Jones was awarded, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
