Sergeant Johnson was a member of Company B, 7th Motorized Transportation Battalion, Service Command, Fleet Marine Force, Pacific. He died in Korea from other causes on 10 February 1952.

Johnson was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
