Second Lieutenant Case was a pilot with the 428th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 474th Fighter Bomber Group. On 11 June 1954, he had completed a target towing mission in a F-84 Thunderjet over Taegue, South Korea and dropped his target when his aircraft crashed into a hill.

Case was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
