Biography:

First Lieutenant McClure was a registered nurse serving with the 801st Medical Air Evacuation Squadron, U.S. Air Force in Korea. On 22 December 1952, she was the flight nurse of a C-47 Skymaster transport, flown by the Royal Hellenic Air Force. During take off from Suwon Airfield (K-13), the aircraft was struck by an Air Force F-80 Shooting Star fighter, killing all 13 on board.

McClure was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Burial

First Lieutenant Virginia May McClure is buried at Fontanelle Cemetery in Fontanelle, IA.
