Harold George Howey On 10 July 1943, then-Staff Sergeant Harold George Howey was serving with Company B, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Seventh U.S. Army. On that day, SSG Howey’s unit was in action against German forces at Mollarella and Poliscia beaches at Licata, Sicily, during Operation Husky. SSG Howey’s courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross. Medals, Awards and Badges Distinguished Service Cross Distinguished Service Cross Citation (Synopsis) Staff Sergeant Harold G. Howey, United States Army, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company B, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 10 July 1943. Staff Sergeant Howey's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 3d Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
