Private First Class Deer With Horns was a member of an engineer platoon in support of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was wounded and taken prisoner on 23 April 1951 in North Korea. He died of a wound to the stomach on 4 August 1951 in a Prisoner of War Camp in North Korea. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
Deer With Horns was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
