|
Captain Calkins was the navigator of a B-29 Superfortress bomber with the 3511th Training Squadron, 3511 Training Group stationed at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. On 11 January 1951 the bomber was returning to Randolph when the flight instruments failed. The plane crashed killing six of the crew members. Calkins was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. |
