Private First Class Engelhardt was a member of the 17th Ordnance Medium Maintenance Company. He contracted hemorrhagic fever and was evacuated to the 8228 Mobile Army Surgical Unit (MASH), where he died on 2 July 1952.

Engelhardt was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
