Private First Class Lentz was a member of Headquarters Battery, Division Artillery, 7th Infantry Division. On 1 September 1953, while bathing in the Imjin River near Pangchul-Tong, South Korea, he stepped off a sand bank and drowned.

Lentz was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
