Private First Class Karch was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He died of other causes on 8 November 1951 near Halsu, North Korea.

Karch was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
