Sergeant First Class Eggenburg was a member of the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on 6 September 1950 and returned to duty on 11 September 1950. He was seriously wounded again in North Korea on 26 November 1950 and returned on 20 December 1950. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on 9 March 1951.
Eggenburg was awarded the Purple Heart with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
