Private First Class Montana was a member of the 527th Quartermaster Service Company, U.S. Army. He developed aspiration pneumonia and was evacuated to the 4th Field Hospital where he died on 8 December 1950.

Montana was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
