Private First Class Gower was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 223rd Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry Division. He died of other causes on 5 December 1953 at Chorwon Valley, North Korea.

Gower was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
