Private Serrato was a member of the 1st Cavalry Division. He died of other causes on 31 May 1951 while in his foxhole near Sonbong-ni, South Korea.

Serrato was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
