Sergeant First Class Ross was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On 25 July 1952, while checking his guards' posts near Sidamake, North Korea, he was killed by enemy small arms fire.

Ross was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
