Private Romero was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 29th Infantry Regiment. Three days after landing at Pusan, his company was ordered into battle to rescue the 1st Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment at Anui, South Korea. He was Killed in Action fighting the North Koreans on 27 July 1950.
Romero was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
