Kyle David Hancock was born on 29 July 1945 in Knoxville, TN. He was the son of Leroy and Nola Mae (Wilhite) Hancock, Sr. Kyle, a 1963 graduate of Townsend High School, married the former Patricia Herron of Aiken, SC on 30 June 1965. She was a chemistry teacher at Brunswick High School.

Military Service

Kyle was serving in the Navy at the time of his tragic death. He and Patricia had only been married for 24 days.

TOWNSEND YOUTH DIES OF INJURIES FOLLOWING CRASH
Maryville Times, Maryville, Tennessee -- July 1965

A young Townsend sailor, bringing his bride of three weeks home to meet his parents and to celebrate his 20th birthday, died Saturday [24 July] of injuries received in a head-on collision on U.S. 411 near Ranger, GA.

Kyle David Hancock and his wife, the former Patricia Herron of Aiken, SC were driving from the Naval Training Center at Brunswick, GA where he had just completed training as an air traffic controller. The Hancock car and one driven by Robert Dean, Calhoun, GA, collided head-on at 5:30 A.M. Saturday, 17 July. Mrs. Hancock whom relatives said was driving the car, is reported in critical condition in an Atlanta, GA hospital. Dean was also injured in the crash.

Death and Burial

Kyle David Hancock died on 24 July 1965 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on 17 July. He is buried at Eastview Memorial Gardens in Knoxville, Knox County, TN.
