Sergeant Dragoo was a member of Service Company, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On 30 August 1952, while on a training march near Kumgong-ni, North Korea, his platoon inadvertently strayed into a mine field and he suffered multiple fragment wounds from a series of explosions.

Dragoo was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
