Robert Eugene Mackey was the son of Robert J. and Genevieve A. Mackey. He was a resident of Cocoa, FL, for 18 years. Prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army, he was employed by IBM at Cape Kennedy, FL. On 7 September 1968, Private First Class Robert Eugene Mackey was serving as a Medical Corpsman with Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry, 11th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, in Quang Ngai Province, South Vietnam. On that day, PFC Mackey was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered. Mackey received a posthumous promotion to the rank of Corporal. Badge and Medals Silver Star Medal Honors The name Robert E Mackey is located on Panel W45 Line 63 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.
