Private First Class Ingalls was a Light Weapons Infantryman with the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on 28 July 1950 and returned to duty on 12 September 1950. He was seriously wounded again in North Korea on 2 December 1950 and returned on 1 February 1951. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on 25 April 1951.
Ingalls was awarded the Purple Heart with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
