First Lieutenant Kremser was the mortar platoon leader of Company H, 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He occupied a hill by the Naktong River near Yongsan to support an attack by Company E. His position was surrounded by superior enemy forces. He held them off for four days inflicting severe damage to the enemy, until he was killed by an enemy mortar burst on 3 September 1950.
Kremser was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
