Then-Sergeant Bradley Duane Larson, U.S. Army, was awarded the Silver Star Medal for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force while serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan on 3 October 2009. Two other participants in that battle, SSG Clinton L. Romesha and SSG Ty M. Carter were awarded the Medal of Honor.
SGT Bradley Larson's heroic actions led to the safe withdrawal of three Soldiers from an endangered position, and enabled the recovery of a wounded Soldier. After carrying the casualty back to the aid station, SGT Larson returned to this section, where he was a critical member of the assault team that recovered two American heroes.
