Captain Hunter was the pilot of a B-26C Invader bomber with the 730th Bomber Squadron, 452nd Bomber Wing. On 2 December 1950, while on an attack mission, the aircraft was flying at a low level at Pakchon, North Korea, when it struck a power line and crashed. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on 31 December 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
Hunter was awarded the Air Medal with 13 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
