Private First Class Hunter was a member of Company A, 51st Signal Battalion, U.S. Army. He died of other causes on 9 October 1950 near Taegu, South Korea.

Hunter was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
