First Lieutenant Hudson was a crew member of a B-26 attack bomber stationed at McClellan Air Force Base near Sacramento, California. On 26 January 1952, he was flying on a training mission, when his aircraft crashed into Suisan Bay, California, and exploded.

Hudson was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
