Corporal Ray was a member of the Ordnance Maintenance Company, 1st Ordnance Battalion, 1st Marine Division. He died in Korea from other causes on 4 February 1952.

Ray was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
