Private Greer was a member of Company B, 519th Military Police Battalion. On 8 November 1951, his vehicle skidded through the guard rail on the North Han River Bridge near Chung-Ju, South Korea.

Private Greer was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
