Sergeant Garcia was a member of Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 160th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry Division. He died of other causes on 8 December 1953 in North Korea.

Garcia was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
