Corporal Weldon was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 29th Infantry Regimental Combat Team. Prior to the outbreak of hostilities, his unit was assigned to guard the Strategic Air Command bases on Okinawa. The 1st and 2nd Battalions were shipped to Korea without combat training and arrived at Pusan on 24 July 1950 and immediately trucked to Chinju. The 1st Battalion was ordered to march from Chinju to Anui on 27 July where it met a major North Korean attack. Company B was cut off and suffered heavy casualties.
Weldon was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
