Chauncey David Cole, Jr.
He served in the CCC in 1936-37 and joined the 2nd Battalion/105th Infantry, New York National Guard in 1938 as a Private. Chauncey married Gertrude Florence Daly on 15 July 1941 and remained her faithful husband and friend until his death. After graduating from Army Infantry OCS in 1942 as a Second Lieutenant, he was assigned to the 78th "Lightning" Division at Camp Butner, NC. He deployed overseas with the division to the European Theatre of Operations, assigned to the First Army. He saw action as Commander of the Machinegun Platoon, 3rd Battalion/311th Infantry Regiment and Company Commander of "L" Company, 3/311. By 1960 he commanded the Battalion as a Lieutenant Colonel. He participated in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Medals and Awards Silver Star Medal Combat Infantryman's Badge Worked 35 years for the General Electric Company. Death and Burial Chauncey David Cole, Jr. died of bladder cancer on 18 August 1990. He is buried at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, Schenectady County, NY. |
