Lieutenant Chick was the pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter with Fighter Squadron 113 aboard the aircraft carrier USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CV-47). On 4 July 1952, he was on a strafing run when his aircraft was hit by small arms fire and crashed into a mountain. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
Chick was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Navy Commendation Ribbon, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
