Corporal Carlisle was a member of the 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in North Korea on 25 November 1951 and returned to duty on 12 December 1951. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on 21 August 1952.

Carlisle was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
