Biography:

Sergeant Carder was a member of Headquarters Company, 224th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry Division. On 24 October 1952, he was clearing a mine field near "Sand Bag Hill", Korea, when fragments from an explosion struck his head.

Carder was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
