Private First Class Boyd was a member of the Heavy Mortar Team, Company H, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He died of other causes on 15 February 1952 near Hwachon, North Korea.

Boyd was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
