Private First Class Throssell was a member of Headquarters Battery, 9th Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division. On 15 March 1951 near Seoul, South Korea, he hit a wire that fired a trip flare. The retaining cap struck him in the eye killing him.

PFC Throssell was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
