On 27 February 1968, Private First Class Paul James Miller was serving with D Company, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division, in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, PFC Miller was killed in action when he sustained wounds from Friendly Fire. His body was recovered.
